7:34pm: Michigan State is hoping to take down Kentucky to make the NCAA tournament, according to a report by the Detroit Free Press.
The Spartans and Wildcats have met twice in the NCAA Tournament in the past, as Michigan State beat the Wildcats in the first round in 2014 and then took a 3-1 series lead over the Wildcats two years later in the second round.
Michigan State won the series and made it to this point in the tournament, but the Spartans are hoping to have another chance to get to the Sweet 16.
The Spartans and Wolverines will meet again in the Sweet Sixteen on Wednesday night.
Kentucky is coming off a heartbreaking loss to Duke on Saturday, as the Wildcats blew a 17-point lead in the final 2:10 of the game and then blew a 20-point third quarter lead in overtime.
According to the report, Michigan State has a chance to make it to Sweet 16 because of a tiebreaker that would go into the game, but it will be extremely difficult to make up the difference with Kentucky.
“Michigan State’s shot at the Final 4 is on the line tonight,” the report said.
Michigan has won six straight games against Kentucky, and the Wolverines are 10-3 against the Wildcats overall.
There is a 1-in-10 chance that Michigan State wins the game.
