Trump has told his supporters to expect a “war” with Mexico, even as the White House has signaled that he may consider military action if Mexico refuses to pay for a border wall.
In an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, Trump said the US would not “send in troops” unless Mexico pays for the wall.
Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity that Mexico “should pay for it, and we will have a very big, beautiful wall.”
“I don’t want to have a huge war with Mexico,” Trump said.
“But I’m not going to have Mexico pay for the border wall.”
Trump said he was “totally open” to military action, including “defeating the enemy in Mexico.”
Trump has repeatedly told Fox Business that he has no interest in starting a war with China or North Korea, but he has not publicly said whether he would consider war with the US.
